The series focuses on the importance of courage and perseverance in the face of staunch opposition against justice.
June Lenker (Cush Jumbo) is adamant about helping the anonymous woman who called for help. She shows courage and perseverance as she finds out the truth about a conviction that might be a racially motivated plot. Even though she faces tough opposition, June keeps going to get justice and protection for those wronged.
The series focuses exclusively on racial divides within British culture and addresses these issues via a case with a potentially wrongful conviction. The series focuses on racial stereotypes, microagressions, and how it feels for Black people to experience these issues on a constant basis. Cush Jumbo leads the cast as a biracial Black character who must manage her emotions and feelings while dealing with racism and even microaggressions from her family. The series also features several Black and South Asian actors playing characters who are well-rounded and intricately written. The production team is somewhat less diverse -- the creator is a White man; a director is Black and a couple writers are people of color.
