One In The Movement (OIM) is a multi-tier approach to training and delivering essential resources to new and tenured advocates working in family violence agencies. OIM is available to family violence service program staff, and training is offered free to HHSC-funded programs and members of the Texas Council on Family Violence.
TCFV offers training specific to new advocates working in family violence shelter centers. These fundamental training topics can help familiarize you with your role as an advocate. The training objectives are essential to understanding the systems survivors navigate, as well as offering ethical, trauma-informed support. All new employees of Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) funded family violence programs must complete orientation and training that is compliant with the Texas Administrative Code. Though the trainings provided by TCFV in this library are compliant with many of those requirements, this library alone may not fulfill all minimum training requirements under the Texas Administrative Code. Please consult with your supervisor to ensure you have a plan for completing all minimum training requirements. Please note, you must have Coalition Manager login credentials to access the training listed in this library.
TCFV offers training that builds on minimum training requirements for advocates, and deepens their knowledge around survivor-centered advocacy, trauma-informed care, wellness, racial equity, and language justice. These trainings offer tools, perspectives, and resources that can help advocates to empower survivors who may be negatively impacted by social and systemic barriers to their safety and wellness.
TCFV offers six Train the Trainer Modules for those who train and educate advocates, volunteer advocates and/or community members. This six-module course presents fundamental information needed in advocate training, as well as coaching tips on how best to train with this material.
